Fem v. Masc

Why is it “os” when “dias” is feminine? And why is it “as” when “tardes” and “noches” are masculine?

There are a lot of different endings.
Words ending with an – a you can usually conclude these are female.
Endings with – ion are mostly female.
The majority of words ending with an – o are masculine.

Some words though fall out of line and those you have to learn by heart.
Like dia, which is masuline.

Tarde and noche are feminine, but there is NO thump of rule that words ending – e are mostly feminine.
It comes easy to remember the “gender” when you learn them together in phrases.

Buenos dias!

Días no es femenino es masculino

Generally the rule breaks are due to some kind of truncation/shortening of the word. For example moto is really motocycla and foto is fotografa.
As far as night and day goes, in many polytheistic religions the father deity ruled the day and the feminine maternal deity ruled the night. And there is some views that menstration is guided by the lunar cycle.
It is most likely for this reason that dios is masculine and evening and night are feminine.

Sentence info.

“Buenos días” is a Spanish greeting composed of two words:

1. “Buenos” is the masculine plural form of “bueno,” which means “good.”
2. “Días” is the plural of “día,” which means “day.”

The phrase literally translates to “good days” but is universally used to mean “good morning.” It’s a standard greeting from sunrise until the early afternoon.

Tips to remember it:

– Associate “Buenos” with “good” since they start with “bu” and “go,” respectively.
– Remember that “días” sounds like “days.”
– Since it is a morning greeting, think of starting your many “days” ahead with a “good” note.

Alternate ways to say “Good morning” in Spanish:

– “Buen día” – Although singular, it’s also used to say “good day” or “good morning.”
– “Feliz mañana” – More literal, it means “happy morning” and is less commonly used.
